Your System...

...has recovered from a serious error.

Well, I finally tracked down the culprit in the mystery of what the f*** is wrong with my computer. Through extensive testing and retesting I determined that the power supply was the component that was causing problems. Apparently the PS was upset with the hours and the working conditions, so it decided to retaliate against two of my HDD's. The first victim, mentioned in this post, was an IDE drive configured for extra storage. It seems that this is where it took out most of its revenge. The file system on that drive was completely corrupted, and the data stored within was completely hosed.

The second and final bit of offensive behavior happened on Sunday. In a last ditch effort to become a martyr, my PS zapped the master boot record of my system drive so bad that it required a repair of the windows installation for the computer to be functional. Apparently the PS had become bored with IDE drives and decided to move on to the main serial drive. I didn't know this until yesterday when I installed a replacement PS. Luckily, no important personal data was lost on the system drive, which is more than I can say for D:\.

I now have the offending PS in custody. It is my plan to detain the PS until such time as it can be executed by the most cruel and unusual means possible.

Milestones

Oh my brothers, another great blogger milestone has been reached. Thanks to everybody who has visited my blog in the last year I have accumulated 10,000 page loads.

Congratulations to LocoMocos for being the second member of The Pentarchy to achieve the same feat.

I'm happy to become a member of the 5 digit club. I'd like to thank everybody who made this day possible.

Bad Luck

D:\ on SATA150 goes down. Billions of bytes feared lost.
Thousands of files corrupted.

The rescue effort is underway for data that has been lost or corrupted by a hard disk crash on SATA150 sometime between saturday and tuesday. The actual time of the crash is unknown because the drive is not a bootable partition, so it did not affect the normal operation of the computer.

The physical drive is a Maxtor 80g ATA-100 HDD. It had been partitioned as one large logical disk and formatted as fat32. It's one of the older disks on Pitnet, but not the oldest. It housed the 'shared' directory which included all pirated apps/games, all misc images, all misc short movies, music videos, and whatever I had recently downloaded from the peer network. I do have CD backups for most of the stuff, but it looks like I may lose a large amount of data. It also looks like the data I may be able to 'retreive' will be unusable.

The wierdest thing about it is that Laura was over at my place with her computer for me to fix. Her problems were the same as mine. Somehow the filesystem on her disk had become corrupted and unreadable. Unfortunately for her the corrupted drive was her boot partition, and I couldn't do anything with her laptop hard drive, so all her data was lost. I was looking for my drive to pull some apps from it when I noticed it wasn't there anymore.

Moral of the story: BACKUP YOUR DATA!

Opening Day

Go Royals!

Today was opening day for our Kansas City Royals. The weather was perfect, it was a beautiful day for baseball. Unfortunately I was unable to make it to the stadium to witness they Royals first loss of the year. They lost to the Tigers, who are projected to be as bad or worse than the Royals.

I wonder how this loss today will affect the two issues on the Jackson County ballot tomorrow. The two issues of which I speak are initiatives that would impose a .375 cent sales tax so the city could give millions of dollars to the occupants of the Truman Sports Complex. It is said that this money is going to be used to 'make improvements' to the stadiums, and to build a roof for the complex that would 'roll' from one stadium to the other.
I am for improvements to the stadiums, and I am also in favor of the roof. However, of this half a billion dollar project, the Chiefs are only contributing 30% of their part, and the Royals are only contributing 10% of theirs. Not only that, but the politics have been really nasty. The pro people are claiming that the improvements would bring a Superbowl, All Star Game, and NCAA Final Four to the complex, and 'officials' from both teams have made overt threats to leave the city if THIS measure does not pass. The pro people have spent over a million dollars on advertising, mostly emotional pleas. The cons have been very silent, because they don't have money to beg for corporate welfare. I love this website, it's funny.

Lamar Hunt made $50 million last year from the Chiefs. The vote is tomorrow. If you live in Jackson County MO, get out and vote.

Summer

Yes indeed, it it almost summertime. The Royals opening day is Monday. I'm playing softball Saturday and Sunday. Saturday I'm playing with a new team. I've played with them once before - at the snowball tournament in February. We played 3 games and won one. This is not bad considering this team had never played together before. We are playing in another tournament this weekend, so I don't hold out much hope for too many wins. It's nice to get out and play though.

The Porn Stars are getting together on Sunday. This is the second year of Porn Stars softball, and the prospects look promising. We have lots of returning members, some players have been released, and some are new. The core of the team is still intact, so we can build on what we accomplished last year.

I can't wait to get out and float. I have a feeling I'll be floating several times this summer. Although I've already floated once this year - see mancamp 06 photos in the downloadable content section - I'm always ready to go again.
